Spree River Overlay
six cassettes, two cassette decks, digital sound, PA system, and four battery powered loudspeakers with digital music players

Three-hour performance at the Spree River in Berlin with PA system, two cassette decks, six cassettes, and digital sound on one side of the river projecting to a park on the other side of the river, where four battery powered loudspeakers with digital music players sounding pure tones and filtered noise were installed and repositioned throughout the performance. The work overlays a six-hour field recording, itself a modification of my cassette edition Off in the Distance (2022), made at the Colorado River of insect sounds descending in pitch during the night supplemented with pure tones tracking their pitch along the 46th to the 29th partials of a harmonic series, which in this performance is contracted, layered, and augmented with septimal minor third (7:6) and octave displacements to playback rate and the additional electronic sounds (filtered noise and pure tones) mapped to the same harmonic series.
