off in the distance
six C54 audio cassettes [324 minutes] and three folded documents in a cloth-covered box

One field recording made over a night along the Colorado River, consisting of insect sounds slowly descending in pitch as the night grew colder. Added to each audio cassette side are three to four pure tones descending from the forty-sixth to the twenty-ninth partial of a harmonic series, sounding around the pitch and volume of the descending trill of the insects in the field recording.

Includes a score for optional accompaniment with friction-derived noises; a note on the composition as recorded on the audio cassettes; and a chart notating the frequencies of pure tones sounding on each side of the audio cassettes with their panning position (left, center, or right) in different colors. Letterpress-printed documents and audio cassettes housed in a blind-stamped cloth box. Edition of 36.
